A pump used to return draining oil from a turbocharger to the crankcase of the engine.

SCREW COMPRESSOR
A supercharger that uses large intertwining screws instead of rotors to draw in and compress air.

SHORT SHIFTING
Shifting gears early in order to control wheel stands or wheel spin.

SLIDE CARBURETOR
A carburetor that uses a flat or round slide for throttle control. A non-CV type carburetor.

SLIDING VANE COMPRESSOR
A supercharger that has one offset rotor that contains blades (vanes) that trap and compress air.

SPEED-DENSITY EFI
An electronic fuel injection system that is preprogrammed to a set of rpm, load and throttle angle (N-Alpha) values which totally control fuel delivery.

SPOOL-UP TIME
Also called turbo lag time. The time it takes a turbocharger to get up to speed.

STAGNATION ZONE
The location on a moving vehicle where maximum pressure is obtained for a ram air system. Usually dead center of a motorcycle's fairing.

STOICHLOMETRY
The determination of proper proportions of components for chemical reactions, as in the ideal air/fuel ratio for combustion.

SUPERCHARGER
A mechanically driven air pump.
