PCS Turbo Kit
Project By: Mike Lee (mike@techmounts.com)

Click To EnlargeThe PCS Turbo Kit was developed by Mike Lee (High Gear Specialties) and distributed in the US by Personal Cycle Services of Daytona Florida.

Mr. Lee credits oil-seal technology as a major factor in improved turbo efficiency. According to Lee, not only has the eliminated the oil consumption and smoking associated with older turbo's, but the latest seals also induce less drag on the turbine. The result is improved throttle response and a more linear increase in boost.

Another key feature of the kit is that it uses a IHI-Turbo with an integral exhaust wastegate. The built wastegate is right into the turbine housing, the wastegate not only makes for a small package needed for the limited space on the Ducati, but routes bypass gas back into the exhaust system downstream of the turbine so no tell-tell stains are left on boots or bike from spewed exhaust.

The PCS turbo kit is a Blow-Through-System which means intake air passes through the turbo compressor before reaching the carburetors - the stock air-box and carburetors are retained. The kit includes custom 2 into 1 exhaust pipes (Ceramic Coated Spaghetti Pipe from J.B. Racing), it makes full use of the stock muffles (my bike has after market D&D Hi-Flow Carbon Fiber Slip-On).

The PCS Turbo Kit installed as supplied produces 104 peak rear-wheel horsepower on pump gas, using 5 pounds of boost and the stock carburetors. The turbocharger in the kit is capable of providing up to 28 pounds of peak boost.

At low speeds the Turbo'ed Monsters act the same as any well tuned Ducati Monster, with the bonus of hearing the the wastegate pop during shifts. In 3rd gear @ 5,000 RPM's, as you roll the throttle open you feel the power of the linear increase in acceleration, no lag or uncontrolled burst of speed common with NOS (nitrous oxide) products.
PCS Daytona built 4 turn key motorcycles and sold 14 kits, and Mike Lee sold a few kits direct to the European market. In 1996 the PCS Turbo Kit sold for $4,000.00 (USD)

Customizing, Forced induction systems (turbocharging, supercharging, nitrous oxide, etc.), drag racing, road racing and driving a motor vehicle are ALL inherently dangerous and should never be taken lightly. Forced induction systems and racing will shorten your vehicle mechanical life and increase your risk of serious accidents.
