Turbo 999
Project By: Walt Ross (dmrwer@comcast.net)
Under Construction
Sneak peek of the Walt's Turbocharged Ducati 999 project.
The project bike is a 2003 Ducati 999S and one of 200 bikes sold in the US for 2003. In March of 2003 I had the bike stripped of all its body work and had it repainted as a Neil Hodgson SBK replica. I took the bike in July 2003 to the World Superbike race at Laguna Seca. During that race weekend Ducati announced they would offer the 999R Fila replica. I was the only known Fila replica Ducati knew of. Attached is a photo of that bike when I entered it in the MotoEuro Magazine bike show at Laguna Seca and took Best in Show. Ducati North America was kind enough to send me a titanium full race exhaust system which was not available to the general public. Neil Hodgson has signed my gas tank which was a great honor. Since then I had the frame painted red, added a Ducati slipper clutch and BST carbon fiber rims.
I now have that bike apart in my garage (where I park my car, not a shop) and this is my plans for the bike.
- 1. I've purchased a Garrett GT2860RS turbocharger. I plan on a 54mm 2 into 1 exhaust system that will be ceramic coated along with the turbo.
- 2. The turbo will pass through a duel intercoolers, one located on each side of the bike which will feed into the custom air box with 4 fuel injectors and two water/methanol injectors.
- 3. Engine modification will be forged pistons, chrome moly rods, thermal barrier coated piston tops and moly coated skirts, HD clutch springs.
